Olympia Harbor Days

Labor Day Weekend, Donut Junkie will be in Olympia serving up our hit mini's! Harbor Days is an annual festival where tugboats return to the southernmost tip of Puget Sound for three days of entertainment, food, art, history, and a last farewell to the summer. Vintage, working and retired tugboats are moored at Olympia's Percival Landing. Many of them are open for tour on Saturday of the festival. Be on hand at noon Sunday as the tugs leave shore to participate in the Annual Harbor Days Tugboat Races, out in the deep channel of the bay.

Last month, June 30th, Magnus Buffham (aka Lil' Powdered) arrived! He's our newest addition to the Donut Junkie Family!

After working the market with increased contractions, Josh and I went to the hospital to get ready for our awesome baby boy.

If you're ever out, ask to see him! He's been with us for all of our events since his birth. He's a regular the the 6th Ave. Farmer's Market in Tacoma so stop by and say hi.

Opening was June 1st and it was so great to see familiar faces and crank out those mini-donuts!

You want your kids to go out of the 2010 school-year with a bang. They deserve to feel like a million bucks, and you can make that happen within your budget. All you need is a little creativity.

First things first:

Maybe your graduate had a favorite movie, sport or band; after all, it's your graduate's day to shine.

Invitations
After you've set the date and decided if this is a big to-do, or a smaller affair, it's invite time.

You can find numerous free invitation downloads on the web. In your search engine use the magic words, "free graduation invitations."
Homemade invitations express a very personal touch.
Photo invitations are a great way to show off your graduate from day one. Vistaprint is a wonderful site with very reasonable prices. They have hundreds of templates to choose from and they have: invitations, banners, calendars, t-shirts, postcards, car magnets and MORE! You can personalize pretty much anything all on from one website!
You can always send out e-vites. But if you're anything like my family, only about 1/2 of them are up to speed with this "world wide web" thing.

Decorations
The local dollar store becomes your best friend at this point. I love this place and you can find pretty much everything you're looking for.

Balloons
Streamers
Candles
Candle holders
Sidewalk chalk
Party favors
Seasonal items
Picture frames
Imitation flowers
Baskets
Paper plates, cups and napkins
Utensils

The list goes on and on. If you go in with an open mind, you can make a fantastic visual for your themed party.

Other budget-minded online resources are: MyPaperShop.com, DiscountPartySupplies, and PartyCity.

Food and Drink
This is probably where you could potentially spend most of your money, but it doesn't have to be that way. Here are a few hints I found that will help cut costs.

Potluck. Yes! Have family members bring some of their favorite dishes and desserts.
Stock up early. Look for deals early in advance and freeze what you can: meat, buns, desserts, etc.
Check out your local discount grocer. When it comes to chips, crackers, soda and the like, (or everything if you'd rather) this is the place to go.
Large vats of beverages. Instead of individual sodas and waters, have pitchers of tea, lemonade, water and/or punch available. Have guests mark names on their cups and you can save!
Bars! No, not with alcohol, but with food! Dessert bars; have a certain dessert with various toppings. Nacho bar; same deal. Get creative! Stores like Cash n' Carry, Smart and Final, Costco, and Sams Club will carry some pretty unique finds.

Entertainment
It's always fun to set an atmosphere. Whether it's in tune with your theme or not, awkward silence is just that; awkward.

Music. Whether you've got a radio playin' for all to hear, or your Graduate's friends' band, music is always good. Or, maybe you have a DJ friend to spin some tunes!
Games. Because people come and go, organized games are hard to accomplish, but having things like: a volleyball net, basketball hoop, bean bag toss, or horseshoes around give guests a fun option they can play at their leisure.
Singing telegrams could be a fun (and possibly embarrassing) way to bring attention to your Graduate.
Shop around Craigslist for performers under "gigs."

Last Friday, April 2nd, Dinners Done Right in Lacey graciously invited Donut Junkie to serve up some mini-donuts at their monthly tasting event. We really appreciate the generosity of owners Valerie and Joe.

Not only that, but we were able to sample some of their delicious food! So if you haven't checked them out, it's a MUST. Their always friendly and willing to help.

In September we served up mini's at Timberstead Gatherings in Graham, WA. It's a beautiful log home on equally beautiful land. If you're interested in renting space for an event, be sure to talk to Daphne Emerson!

In October we worked the Pumpkin Jubilee at Watson's Greenhouse and Nursery in Puyallup, WA. What an awesome place! From plants, to flowers to beautiful furniture, this is the place to go! Thanks to Terri Elliot and all the Watson's staff!

On October 25th, Donut Junkie will be at Watsons Greenhouse & Nursery and Puyallup for their annual Halloween event. Not only will there be our signature hot, fresh, mini-donuts, but there will also be hot dogs, popcorn, cider and a doggie costume contest!

Camp Promise Event

Camp Promise is created by volunteers to provide a fun camp experience for children with neuromuscular disorders. To learn about their wonderful cause, take a peek at the video below.

Donut Junkie was HONORED to be a part of their Carnival Day and serve up some hot fresh mini-donuts for the campers and their counselors!!! I snapped a couple of pictures of the entire group. And a couple others for your enjoyment. I was absolutely tickled by the beautiful campers and counselors. It's so evident when talking with these inspiring people that in life; attitude is everything.

And on a side note, they raised MORE than their awesome goal. Go team!!!

Puyallup has a new farmers market in the South Hill area and this weekend is our debut! Not only that, there will be a big car show for all of you automotive lovers. The market is on 156th East and Meridian East near the back of the shopping. It runs from 10AM-4PM so there is plenty of time to swing by and check out the goods.
I went by there last Saturday and was really impressed with the variety this market offers. Produce, flowers, honey, dips, art, plants, dog treats, clothing, jewelry, and now...MINI DONUTS!

This coming Tuesday, August 11th, Donut Junkie starts it's newest Farmers Market! Right in the heart of Tacoma, we'll be near the bustling 6th Avenue District. The market is located on North Pine Street between 6th and 7th Avenue. It's open from 3:30PM-7:30PM every Tuesday through the end of September!

There was great music, games, free food and wonderful, wonderful people. National Night Out is a way to get to know our neighbors to create a safer and stronger community. Thanks to Police Chief Cheesman for extending an invitation, we look forward to another great celebration next year!

What the heck are we?!

Look, if I still have a hard time deciding what Donut Junkie is, then how the heck are YOU supposed to know? Are we a catering company? Uh, sure. Are we a bakery? Yes but none of that "day-old" nonsense. Are we an entertainment act? Well, not me personally but the donut makin' machine likes to show off. Are we the people in the little truck selling donuts out of a window? Nope. Think, "Farmers Market." We set-up on two tables and take up roughly a space of 6'x 6'.

We're trying to raise the bar for mini-donuts. We're a classier version of your typical circus mini. We want you to know that we can set-up at your:

Baby Shower
Fundraiser
On and on and on...
